Today when John got off the bus he initiated a conversation with me. Usually I say to him, "Did you have fun and school today," and he says, "Yes." Everyday that is our conversation and everyday his answer is the same. He almost always answers yes to every question I ask him (except, of course, do you need to go potty).
Today was different. He got off the bus and grabbed the balloon sword from his backpack and said, "Look what I have!" I thought it was great! (The little things I am thankful for.) He rarely initiates a conversation and we talked about this balloon for at least 30 seconds. He just needs something 'fun' to talk about.
